Serous concerns over the lack of financial protection and planning in the UK

As a financial professional it always amazes me how so many of the people I meet prioritise insuring their pets, or even their phone, over and above themselves or their business - when the reality is, without their health and therefore their capacity to generate an income, all other insurances are irrelevant, as there will be no income to pay them.
Just…

How to set up a website for your business (part 1)

In this two part series we'l examine what it takes to get your business online.

If you're not familiar with the procedure, setting up your website can be a complex process involving various different companies and lots of confusing jargon. Your website is your business' shop window on the internet, though, so make sure you make the best impression possible to entice customers and encourage them to return.

Getting Out and About

I've been thinking.  No, it didn't hurt too much!  Meeting new people is great; as is getting to know people better.  It never ceases to amaze me just how interesting people can be and where conversations may lead.  Oooh, don't you just love it!

Now, I'm going to get out and about myself!

Harnessing the power of 'Mystery Events' for your business!

Prior to the current economic downturn, we arranged an event for a Danish client, a DIY magazine publisher.

Every year this client spent their entire marketing budget on 1 event (a considerable amount of money).

Every year they organised an event for 150 of their clients plus a number of potential clients and the top performing staff.…

Why Network?

It occurred to me yesterday that although networking seems an obvious thing for me to do when running a business we don’t all think like that.

I certainly didn’t. I remember being thrust into a BNI meeting, having no understanding of how it works, no networking etiquette and leaving feeling completely bewildered but compelled to go again and immerse myself into the world of ‘networking’.

It soon became apparent that we all network for a variety of reasons. For some it is…

office space?

Hi all!

I'm a new recruit to NIS and hope to meet all the members during 2011. I would also like to put out a question regarding available desk space as my tenancy at my current office finishes end of March this year so would like to explore options. I'm a graphic designer, working from my Mac and mobile phone and outsource/subcontract resources when required by my clients. I live in Kingston, Surrey... have a car available so am flexible! Any opportunities will be given full…

Networking in Surrey News - week beginning 10 January 2011

Well, as predicted in last week's NiS News, it's all kicking off big-time on the networking scene now 2011 has arrived and the century goes all 'teenage' on us :0)

We're looking forward to more free expos, with those shameless 'exhibitionists' Paul and James Webster already enthusiastically promoting this year's programme, and I've listed the…

Author Research Request from NiS Member - MLM Diagram + Interview Request

Dear fellow NiS members,

I am currently researching for my next business book aimed at Start-Ups.

I am looking for 2 things - one is a clear simple MLM network diagram showing the upline and downline multiplier effect of multi-level-marketing/network marketing/affiliate marketing.  Credit and contacts will be given in the book

The second is I…

Do you rent your business premises?

I'm looking to do that for the first time and would be both interested and grateful to hear of others' experiences, together with any recommendations or warnings.

Now let's see if anyone ever reads the blog postings.  :-)

Site Impressions

Excellent & informative layout with copious content.  Even before (belatedly!) joining I went to several events that I could so easily have missed.  I'm not going to buy the Company but I have now become a member and added this superb site to my favourites!!  Well done to all concerned.

What's your New Year resolution?

This is the time of year when many of us will set ourselves objectives for the New Year. But how many of us actually achieve them and what gets in our way?

Networking in Surrey News - week beginning 20 December 2010

Brrr! With conditions making you think twice about venturing out at all, the feeback is that networking events in general are unsurprisingly less well attended than they should be at this sociable time of year. It comes to something when the weather forecast becomes essential viewing across the nation - X-Factor, eat your heart out...our Christmas number one is Peter Cockroft at the London Weather Centre!

Still, if you're feeling brave, there are…

Networking in Surrey News - week beginning 13 December 2010

OK - we're onto the last lap before the Christmas break - and if you're anything like me, it's one of the busiest (and probably least commercially productive) periods of the year! Organising cards (personal and business), and presents (ditto), planning visits and social occasions with family and friends, and trying to keep all the plates spinning on the business front can be exhausting! Add in the traffic (and the snow -…

Squeaky squeak, you’ve sprung a leak

Drip drip drip.

In politics and media are leaks ever 'accidental?'

What a week it’s been for leaks. First X-Factor, well. X- Factor is always in there with something; it’s a phenomenal marketing machine and will be studied by marketing, music…

Are you visible?

The first thing any new potential client, who is interested in what you have to offer, is going to do is Google your name, and if not your name, then your business. So what is Google saying about you? Are you in control of that? (You need to be). What are you doing to build your reputation in your marketplace? Are you visible? Are you being seen as 'the one to go to'? How are you marking your differentiation?

An awareness of your position in the throng of similar businesses out there… Continue
