Oh dear, it's that time of year, when as a self-employed small trader (and proud of it!) I shudder at the thought that the tax return and payment deadline is once again upon us...
Thank goodness for helpful Accountants and Book-keepers - and you'll find a great selection in our community of friends…

In this two part series we'l examine what it takes to get your business online.
If you're not familiar with the procedure, setting up your website can be a complex process involving various different companies and lots of confusing jargon. Your website is your business' shop window on the internet, though, so make sure you make the best impression possible to entice customers and encourage them to return.
Before you start building your…

I've been thinking. No, it didn't hurt too much! Meeting new people is great; as is getting to know people better. It never ceases to amaze me just how interesting people can be and where conversations may lead. Oooh, don't you just love it!
Now, I'm going to get out and about myself!

Prior to the current economic downturn, we arranged an event for a Danish client, a DIY magazine publisher.
Every year this client spent their entire marketing budget on 1 event (a considerable amount of money).
Every year they organised an event for 150 of their clients plus a number of potential clients and the top performing staff.…

It occurred to me yesterday that although networking seems an obvious thing for me to do when running a business we don’t all think like that.
I certainly didn’t. I remember being thrust into a BNI meeting, having no understanding of how it works, no networking etiquette and leaving feeling completely bewildered but compelled to go again and immerse myself into the world of ‘networking’.
It soon became apparent that we all network for a variety of reasons. For some it is…

Hi all!
I'm a new recruit to NIS and hope to meet all the members during 2011. I would also like to put out a question regarding available desk space as my tenancy at my current office finishes end of March this year so would like to explore options. I'm a graphic designer, working from my Mac and mobile phone and outsource/subcontract resources when required by my clients. I live in Kingston, Surrey... have a car available so am flexible! Any opportunities will be given full…

After the excess of the holidays, January often finds us feeling sluggish and in need of redressing our overindulgences. The best way to approach getting back on form is to set yourself realistic goals and ease into…

Well, as predicted in last week's NiS News, it's all kicking off big-time on the networking scene now 2011 has arrived and the century goes all 'teenage' on us :0)
We're looking forward to more free expos, with those shameless 'exhibitionists' Paul and James Webster already enthusiastically promoting this year's programme, and I've listed the…

Dear fellow NiS members,
I am currently researching for my next business book aimed at Start-Ups.
I am looking for 2 things - one is a clear simple MLM network diagram showing the upline and downline multiplier effect of multi-level-marketing/network marketing/affiliate marketing. Credit and contacts will be given in the book
The second is I…

I'm looking to do that for the first time and would be both interested and grateful to hear of others' experiences, together with any recommendations or warnings.
Now let's see if anyone ever reads the blog postings. :-)

This is the time of year when many of us will set ourselves objectives for the New Year. But how many of us actually achieve them and what gets in our way?
For 2011, if you are serious about getting things done then invest in a Timer, or learn how to use the one on your phone!…

Brrr! With conditions making you think twice about venturing out at all, the feeback is that networking events in general are unsurprisingly less well attended than they should be at this sociable time of year. It comes to something when the weather forecast becomes essential viewing across the nation - X-Factor, eat your heart out...our Christmas number one is Peter Cockroft at the London Weather Centre!
Still, if you're feeling brave, there are…

OK - we're onto the last lap before the Christmas break - and if you're anything like me, it's one of the busiest (and probably least commercially productive) periods of the year! Organising cards (personal and business), and presents (ditto), planning visits and social occasions with family and friends, and trying to keep all the plates spinning on the business front can be exhausting! Add in the traffic (and the snow -…
