Top tips to clean and protect your wooden sprung dance floors

If you are responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of your wooden sprung dance floors you will know that they need special care and attention. Here we provide top cleaning tips to ensure that your wooden sprung dance floors are given the attention that they need.

Caring for your wooden sprung dance floor

Our suggested daily routine

  • Vacuum, sweep, or dry dust mop
  • Keep the floor surface dry
  • Clean up spills immediately so that they don’t cause any damage
  • After every tap class, damp mop floors with a solution of 1:4 all purpose cleaner to water, which will remove any residue created by tap shoes

Our suggested weekly routine

  • Mop surface with a micro-fibre mop head, but do not use soaps or detergents
  • Use a recommended wood floor cleaner. Beware of using chemicals that may leave a slippery residue
  • Do not use wax or silicone based polishes, paste waxes, or solvent or pine based cleaners on wood floors. They will make the floor more difficult to clean

Our suggested monthly routine

  • Use your own or hire a floor buffer (also called a floor maintainer) from a local DIY store or cleaning supplies company
  • Use a recommended wood floor cleaner. Beware of using chemicals that may leave a slippery residue

CAUTION: Never ever allow cleaning solution or water to seep between the seams of the floor.

In any environment, walking on a dirty floor is the fastest way to damage the finish. Be sure to clean your floors regularly. Wooden sprung dance floors are very special – they need looking after!
