If you haven’t already, have your mobile telephone security marked and only use your with office address, I know it won’t stop your mobile from being stolen but if it does get recovered at a later date it will help the police to know where it came from and perhaps break up a bigger gang who are selling these telephones off and are actually “targeting” mobile phone users.
I always advise to have it on silent if you are in a secluded area or on your own in unfamiliar territory and to be especially wary when coming out of the underground station, especially at night, as this is where most mobiles are stolen from as they tend to “bleep” when you come out and get a signal and receive your messages.
If you do have any messages or feel the need to text try not to read or text whilst walking down the street. Read your messages while stood in the light and preferably with your back against a wall and even though you are reading still try to pay attention to what is going on around you.
Same thing applies if you are texting and sending messages.
It makes no sense at all to walk around with your head down sending text messages oblivious to all around you as you see so many people doing.
It also never fails to amazes me how many people do this while crossing a busy road, what is that about?
It’s when you’re not paying attention that incidents can and do happen.
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies and your mobile phone can actually be a lifesaver or an emergency tool for survival.
Lifesaver number one:
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile telephones is 112.
If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly the number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked.
Don’t just take my word for it, try it out.
Lifesaver number two:
Hidden Battery Power Imagine your mobile battery is very low.
If you would like to be able to make a call and access the hidden battery within your mobile press the keys *3370# your mobile will restart with this reserve power and the phone will show a 50% increase in battery power.
And the good news is that this reserve power will get charged when you charge your mobile phone the next time.
Lifesaver number three:
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone’s serial number or IMEIE number as it is commonly known without having to take your phone to pieces, as the number is usually located underneath your battery.
Key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen, this number is unique to your handset.
Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.
They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either.
