Networking in Surrey

Hi There,

I have just signed into the Networking in Surrey Group and although I have been in sales for years and working for Peninsula for 20 of them, I do not see myself as a good networker.

I have been to many events in the past and failed to make any signifcant headway in, what I believe to be, the networking sector.

Is the problem that, I am not sticking it out long enough? I know that trust is everything and maybe I do not 'hang around' long enough to build that trust.

What do you think?

Well a warm welcome Dennis!

You are right in that networking is a long term strategy and people have to get to 'Know, Like & Trust' you. I think it also takes time for people to 'get' what it is that you do and how you help people. This they need to understand before they could recommend you.

There are several ways in which you can fast track your networking. Having a really clear 'elevator pitch' for one. Also grabbing opportunities to present gives you a chance to demonstrate your expertise and explain in a bit more detail 'how you help people'.

Do you know of 4Networking? At each meeting you get the opportunity to tell everyone who you are, what you do, how you help people and who you'd like to meet - all in 40 seconds!!! Members can also present 4Sights. I know from experience that this really helps to raise your profile.

Dennis, networking is a slow burn for most of us, and some of the most successful networkers I know have told me that they got no new business for the first 9 months to a year of networking!  Then suddenly the 'magic' kicked in, and they've never looked back, with an ever-increasing stream of referrals and business from their connections.

Grab me at a networking event some time, and I'll tell you my 'secret formula' for making networking work like gangbusters for your business (CLUE: Offering free advice and help without expectation of return is just one of the keys that will open doors that you never even knew existed :0)
