We save up for months, sometimes years, to go on holiday for a week or even two, so what do we do if the accommodation or location don’t live up to expectations................?
Whether staying in the UK in a B&B accommodation to a Luxury Cruise, I think we all look forward to our time with family and friends and having a relaxing or even crazy time.
But what if something goes wrong, do we turn to our insurance or flight operator for recompense?
But what happens if you have booked a holiday independently in the UK and things go wrong?
Do you complain to the B&B owner or property owner, and what if you get no joy?
The main reason for writing this little ‘rant’ is because I have just come back from staying in a little cottage in Cornwall, which sounded idyllic on the internet, but when I complained about the ‘lumpy’ beds, the smell from the sceptic tank and in the bathroom, the rotten picnic table and the general cleanliness of the property, the owner told me that she ‘would deal with the issues at the end of the Season’. She was rather upset that I didn’t tell her it was ‘wonderful’. Red rag to a bull!
So I contacted the Agent and got them out to visit the property – the table was replaced that afternoon and they would be speaking to the owner, who was on a Cruise(!) about all my other issues! However, that didn’t really make our stay the best – especially with the ‘aromas’ wafting around the house!!
The sad thing was that nobody else had ever complained about ANY of the issues prior to me! Why not? I don’t think I am that particular, but I just expect a certain standard for the money paid.
So my only recourse was to write in the visitor’s book! To be honest, I was very tame with my comments but did write up the problems that we had experienced. But why did nobody else ever complain? We might then have not had to put up with the issues and have a far more relaxed holiday! Hopefully all future holidaymakers will have a better time because I made a fuss................. But why was it just me having a moan?
Have you ever complained and if not, why not? You work really hard to save for your holidays – I sometimes think that ‘us Brits’ just want a quiet life............
