Networking in Surrey

Make sure your My Page profile on NiS is up to date and looks good. Here are a couple of pointers...

NiS TOP TIP: Enhance your NiS profile listing with a brief descriptor of the business you’re in - there's only room for one or two words. Go to My Page, then click Manage My Page, and then click Profile. In the Full Name box you can have up to 32 characters, including spaces and punctuation – for example: ‘Keith Grover, Copywriter’ is 26 characters. Even if you have a fairly long name, you should still be able to fit in a short job descriptor - so for example, Shirley Barton-Gunning, Arbonne just slots in nicely at 31! This then appears in your Member listing, and when you post blogs or comments. Neat!

NiS NAG: Yes, I do keep bashing on about it, but please make the effort to get a photo on your profile so you have a real presence on the site, and people get to know you. A professional photo is best – but almost any photo beats the default anonymous blue silhouettes! This applies to all your online profiles – they’re your business cards! Not having a photo in an online profile is like not having any business cards when you go out networking - and a poor quality photo equates to a business card you’ve printed off yourself and cut out by hand. All very Blue Peter, but not very professional. Rant over! :0)

Keith is making a very relevant point and I agree completely. He is a copywriter and rather modest, if you ask me.

Writing blogs and publicity material is not every one's cup-of-tea and I have learned to hard way, since I became self-employed in 1993. Essay writing was hard work for me at school, particularly because in my early days, English was not my first language and I struggled with grammatic expressions in the English language for many years.

For me it is very simple. I know what I want to write, but relay on my ghost writer to sharpen my words and make my documents more readable.
