In a recent report McKinsey Global Institute predicted social technologies unlocking a global $900 billion–$1.3 trillion annually through increased sales and greater business effectiveness. The enterprise software industry is thriving with companies investing significant sums of money in deploying its solutions.

And yet ... it all comes down to deceptively simple online conversations.

People having the courage and the confidence to post that first tweet, managers having enough trust to allow staff to become their most powerful online ambassadors, and organisations being able to adapt their corporate culture to the fast changing expectations of the networked world.

Ten years ago, while working in a senior position at the BBC, Euan Semple was one of the first to introduce what have since become known as social media tools into a large, successful organisation. He has subsequently had six years of unparalleled experience working with organisations such as Nokia, The World Bank and NATO. This world is changing fast, but he makes sense of it because he understands that the core basics remain the same: community, learning, interaction. He is a story-teller who offers a host of practical tales about how this new world can work for real people in the real world.
