What does your future look like? Are you happy you can reach it?

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution-focused Hypnotherapy
“A contemporary therapy linking the solution focused brief therapy model back to the hypnotherapy of Milton H Erickson the hypnotherapist who inspired Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) adopts practical, modern strategies that include the best of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and direct hypnosis”. (From Wikipedia)

I focus on the present and the future of my client and not their past. The beauty of this is that I do not need to know what has happened to bring them to me. But I do want to know what they would like to be different in their future. I use Hypnosis in conjunction with the SFBT, CBT and NLP techniques to enable me to make significant and positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time.

Through working with the client, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help with confidence and self-esteem problems. It can also help (if necessary in conjunction with medication) in the treatment of depression and anxiety, including panic attacks, agoraphobia (fear of open spaces) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Minor phobias such as spiders, water, flying, and public speaking can also be minimised, along with painful memories and traumatic experiences, weight loss, giving up smoking and more.
It can also be used as a preventative measure. How often do you have a massage to treat yourself to help you to relax or de stress? Not often enough I expect! . Just consider Trance as a form of Mind Massage.
Hypnosis

“Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterised by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion”.(Wikipedia)

I induce a state of Trance in my client through the use of word patterns.
During Trance both your conscious and subconscious mind work together and we find that in this state we can influence and alter your perceptions for your benefit.
Trance is a natural state that we all move in and out of during our working day. (driving the car, watching television, or focussing on document at work)
I explain the theory behind how our brains work with clients in their consultations. Understanding how my brain responds to different situations was the “light bulb” moment when all fell into place and I was able to start thinking more positively for my own benefit. So simple!

It is a common fear that once in a state of trance that has been induced by a practitioner you will get “stuck”. This is not the case as you will see below:

“The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists (AfSFH) wishes to reassure the public that hypnotic ‘trance’ is a perfectly natural state, and that should anything befall the hypnosis practitioner, their subject would ‘wake up’ in their own time anyway.
Association Trustee and Company Secretary, Nicola Griffiths, explains, ‘We all drift in and out of the ‘trance’ state many times a day – concentrating so hard on a report or spreadsheet at work that you are oblivious to your colleagues’ banter, becoming so engrossed in a book or TV programme that you are unaware that your partner has been trying to attract your attention, or being so involved in an activity, even ironing, that you lose track of time.
The only difference between this state and being hypnotised is that the practitioner guides you into the state in order to engage your full attention. You cannot be made to do anything against your will and should anything untoward happen to your practitioner then you would simply wake up naturally.’
Question for you?

This evening when it’s time to go to bed. Everybody in your household is quiet, and you are sleeping in peace. In the middle of the night, a miracle happens and the problem that prompted you to talk to me today is solved! But because this happens while you are sleeping, you have no way of knowing that there was an overnight miracle that solved the problem. So, when you wake up tomorrow morning, what might be the small change that will make you say to yourself, ‘Wow, something must have happened—the problem is gone!’”?
