Face masks should be an essential part of your skincare routine.  They can help draw out impurities, hydrate and balance your skin.

The best part is you don’t have to spend a fortune to make them part of your weekly routine!  Just combining a few simple ingredients can help make all the difference.

Mask 1:      Raw Honey & Thyme: This mask is perfect for those who suffer from irritated or blemished skin. Honey soothes and heals inflamed skin whilst thyme is a classic anti-bacterial and anti-acne herb.  Tamanu oil is one of my all-time favourites as it has so many benefits for all types of skin, including skin repair.  French clay helps draw out all those nasty impurities that clog up the pores.

1 tsp dried thyme leaves

½ tsp French green clay powder (or kaolin clay)

½ tsp honey (can be increased to 1 tsp)

¼ tsp tamanu oil

Grind thyme leaves in a coffee grinder to yield about ½ tsp powder and stir together with the clay.  Stir in the tamanu oil and honey until a thick paste is formed.

Now for the fun bit! Using your fingers spread a generous amount over your face and neck.  Leave for 5 – 10 minutes to work its magic.  Soak a cloth in hot, but not too hot, water and lay over your face for about 30 seconds and then wipe clean.  Repeat this until the mask has disappeared.  Finally rinse with clean water.

Mask 2:      Rose Pink

This mask is perfect for those with dry, sensitive skin and takes full advantage of yoghurt’s skin-softening acids.

1 tbsp dried rose petals

1 tbsp kaolin clay

Natural, live yoghurt

Grind the rose petals into a fine powder, combine with the kaolin clay.  This can be stored in a jar for up to a year.  When ready to use, take a couple of pinches in your hand and combine with enough yoghurt to form a thick paste.  Apply to your face and neck and leave for 5 – 10 minutes.  Rinse well with warm, running water.

With either of these masks why not indulge in a little eye rejuvenation time as well.
