Keeping the office spotlessly clean should be one of the main concerns for businesses. It’s only natural to expect employees to clean up after themselves in their work place. But, it’s also up to the owner or head of a company to set an example and lead an orderly as well as a religiously cleaned office.
Employees, employers and clients, all interact and spend lots of hours milling about in an office space. This means that large amounts of paperwork will pile up, as well as coffee cups and other items – all of which will be gathering dust, and where there’s dust there’s grime too!
But don’t despair – if you look after a business and are in charge of the running and caring of the premises then we have a few easy tips to help you make light work of your cleaning, whether it’s in the office area, kitchen, hallway or toilet. Most businesses rely on a regular monthly or quarterly clean up done by a professional cleaning company to ensure that everything is in top-tip hygienic condition. But in order to keep everything organised, less chaotic and clean before the next professional clean up is scheduled, here are some top tips to help you!
File properly as you go
Keep paperwork, files and other knick-knacks organised and neatly stowed away in proper work trays and cabinets. But piling paperwork up neatly and in alphabetical order will not solve your dust problem. To keep your paperwork trays dust free – ensure they are regularly wiped, then dust and mites will be kept to a minimum. Encouraging your employees to file paperwork as they go will ensure that dust won’t have time to settle and get trapped.
Enforce a strict ‘Clean as You Go’ policy
Taking charge of the office cleanliness is the responsibility of the person in charge. However, this person should be aware of the conduct and responsibility of his or her employees. Therefore it’s imperative to remind everyone to clean up their spaces and other communal places like the office kitchen and fridge.
Make each employee label their food kept in the fridge so that he or she will be responsible in ensuring that it is thrown out when it has become a bio-hazard. Stipulate that there should be no dirty dishes left in the kitchen sink and encourage everyone to wipe the counters after they have used them – and the microwave. Finally, organise a weekly ‘clean the kitchen’ day where a group of employees are assigned to clean up the storage and kitchen area.
Keep the cleaning supplies cabinet filled
Nothing reminds a person more about their office cleanliness than a huge supply cabinet filled with necessary cleaning aids. This will also give everyone in the office a reason to keep their space free from grime and dust. Also, stock up on clean microfibre wipes, small towels, dust sprays and cleaning alcohol etc. The more accessible they are, the better.
