Save money on your Supermarket shopping

Let’s chat about how to save money at the supermarkets...

The first and probably most important thing is to make a shopping list and stick to it!  The smell of bread being spread around the shop floor, together with some summer up-beat songs that we know the words to, pervading our ears and making us feel good, can make it very easy for us to spend just a few extra pounds - or more!

I know, I'm a real sucker when it comes to stuff like that - even though I know I'm being had!

Beware of the end of aisles sales too - that's where all those tempting offers are.   If it's not on your list, don't buy them - unless of course you have a large freezer and you will use them within the sell buy /freezer use by date.

I've started to shop in Morrison’s - to be honest I'm sick to death of the BIG 3 especially when they keep banging on about being cheaper than each other, giving me coupons for stuff I don't like and never buy, not to mention letting me know how much I saved or giving me a coupon for 0.2p as it would have been cheaper elsewhere and only valid for 2 weeks!

Question to ask yourself - Why don' they compare prices to the likes of Morrison’s? In Morrison’s, their fruit, veg and meat is fabulous, plus all the boring stuff - washing powders etc are a lot cheaper.  The aisles are wider, so you don't have to try and squeeze past the staff filling up the shelves and the staff are extremely friendly and appear 'happy'.

Also, the last few times I have been in, I haven't had to wait to pay at the checkout.     The one down side is having to find a £1 to use a trolley, and then retrieving the £1 from the trolley - long nails don't help - but I guess they don't have to pay for a trolley collection/finding service - so saving the customer more money in the long run.

Don't be fooled either - you might 'believe' that a pre packed bag of fruit or veg is more expensive than 'loose' products........ Please check the next time you are in a supermarket and don't forget to wear your glasses, so you can actually read the price on the shelves!

Why not try your local market too - they are very keen to please and they can save you a lot of money.   Just check that the produce you have asked for is what you get in the bag.
