Well, you're right Ian, it is cheaper to buy by the year than by the quarter, which in turn is cheaper than the monthly rate. However, the commitment for a year means that after the first 30 days when the guarantee runs out you are in for the duration, with no refund if you leave! Of course, you wouldn't want to leave when you see the value - but the point is that like many contracts, it' costs less if you commit and pay in advance.
The yearly rate won't increase for November, as it happens, nor the monthly one - it's just the quarterly rate that will rise...
