At 3:30 pm I will lead you from the West Hanger car park in Staple Lane along footpaths down the hill into Shere to watch the Olympic Torch relay (starts 4.55 pm) and have a look around the beautiful, probably most photographed village in Surrey. My English aunt and Swiss uncle got married at Shere church many years ago. They had their reception at the old White Horse Inn built circa 1475.

COST: FREE

BOOKING: No need to book - just turn up on the day! Text or 'phone 07778 058 026 if you need assistance finding the car park.

Charlie's nomination story
Charlie Palmer is a "King Scout", having started as a Cub Scout over 75 years ago! He volunteers for Wonersh and Shalford Scouts, Bentley Copse Scout Campsite and Wonersh United Reformed Church. Although quiet and unassuming, Charlie is an inspiration to many. He is always cheerful, enthusiastic and willing to pass on his considerable skills and knowledge. At the age of 85, he regularly works seven hours, six days a week (other voluntary work permitting) and has carried out several large maintenance projects for the Scouts. Charlie takes huge pride in his work and he never looks for anything in return for his considerable time given. He enjoys working with young people who benefit greatly from his knowledge and kindness towards them. The good working relationships he builds in this way are beneficial not only to the young people themselves, but also to the community as a whole.
