Maybe there's something in our make-up which doesn't make us founders. Instead, founders typically come from other walks of life - tech, finance, operations, sales... And often those founders discover they have to deal with marketing too.
Marketing your business is crucial for success, but it isn't easy. And sadly, experienced marketers don't come cheap. So I meet founders all the time who are struggling to get marketing done, and struggling to manage junior marketers.
What's available to help?
1) Coaching
The easiest and cheapest way an experienced marketer like me can help is through coaching. I've developed an extendable 4 week coaching programme for founders who are doing marketing or managing marketing people.
It doesn't really have a set agenda because your circumstances aren't the same as any other business. Instead, my experience as a fractional marketing head helps me quickly get to grips with your business to be able to offer specific, tailored advice.
I've developed the SOPE Framework® to help me do just that (details below).
This is an intense full day workshop, after which I provide a report and a marketing roadmap outlining options for development.
The SOPE Framework covers: STRATEGY - we look in depth at you business strategy as well as defining elements from your marketing strategy (such as Ideal Customer Profiles, your Value Proposition and your channel strategy) ORGANISATION - how are you set-up for success? What does the team look like, and what marketing infrastructure (such as CRM or CMS) do you have in place? PROCESSES - whether you're doing marketing yourself, you have a team or you're using agencies and freelancers, you need the right processes in place. That covers briefing, possibly compliance, feedback loops and measurement
EXECUTION - the fun part, actually getting the marketing going - but if you don't have all the right stuff above in place, it simply won't work.
3. Fractional CMO
This is for organisations that need someone to take-over the day-to-day management of the marketing strategy and team. As a fCMO, I can work with you for between 2 days a month and 3 days a week - offering 20+ years experience at a fraction of the cost of employment.
